In her new best-selling autobiography, television star Lisa Riley has high praise for Waiting For Gateaux, in which she played the leading role during a successful national five-month theatre tour in summer 2010.

Lisa, who has starred in Emmerdale, been the voice of You’ve Been Framed and more recently captured the nation’s heart in Strictly Come Dancing , has found international success with her autobiography Never Judge a Book By its Cover.

In the book she writes: “I went on tour with a genius play called Waiting For Gateaux, written by Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood, two Geordie writers passionate about theatre.

“Waiting For Gateaux is a satirical play…set in a slimming club with one cycle, one yoga mat, one exercise ball and one muscle stretcher on stage it’s about four seriously dysfunctional people who come to the club more out of loneliness than a desire to lose weight. They are there to make friends and have a gossip.

“It’s a wonderfully clever piece. We toured for five months and everywhere we went audiences and critics loved the play.”

Trevor said: “We saw Lisa in Gateaux and she was fantastic. We are delighted she thought so much of the play. We have kept in touch with her, texting good luck messages when she was on Strictly and going for a curry when she played Sunderland Empire with Calendar Girls. She’s not only a cracking actress, she’s great company, great fun and clearly has excellent taste.”

Waiting for Gateaux premiered at the Customs House in 2004 and all 2,000 tickets were sold out ten weeks before the first curtain up. It later toured New Zealand, the UK and sold out Newcastle’s Theatre Royal.  It has been used for school student’s acting exams in the UK and Australia and this year has been performed by amateur groups in the UK.
