We had to wait a couple of days for the press to catch up, but eventually they joined in the applause. Neil McKay in the Journal had no doubts: “an odds-on bet to lift your spirits no end,” he waxed. While Katy Wheeler in the Sunderland Echo called it ”a gem of a comedy,” adding that she’d put money on it being “a runaway success.”
The last word went to Keith Nixon in the Shields Gazette who described it as ‘hilarious, worthy of Joe Orton at his mischievous best.”
