Tickets for the rehearsed reading of Cinderella 2, the latest comedy from the pens of Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood, are rapidly disappearing… oh, yes they are!
The reading, mischievously arranged to clash with the royal wedding, takes place at the Customs House in South Shields on Friday, April 29, starting at 6.30.
The show is being produced by South Shields-based Ion Productions and directed by Jackie Fielding: “The play is about Cinderella calling for Buttons to rescue her from the clutches of the evil prince she has married,” explained Jackie. ”It’s very funny and will appeal to children of all ages, from five to 85.”
Jackie, who directed the duo’s international hit comedy Waiting For Gateaux and London-bound The Revengers, continued: “We have a fantastic cast, all of whom have been seen at the Customs House recently.”
Louis Roberts, who starred in Raising The Stakes, will play Prince Charming; Rachel Teate, who appeared in the Customs House pantomime, is Cinderella; Dandini is played by Rachel Adamson, who was in Motherland and Ion’s production of The Long Road; and Steven Stobbs, who was in Searching For Doctor Branovic and played the lead role in Son of Samurai at the Latitude Festival, is Buttons.
Customs House favourite Iain Cunningham, star of panto and a Boyle Yer Stotts founder member, will play the Fairy Godfather. Iain also played the lead role in Son of Samurai at the Customs House during its month long run in 2007.
Producer Gareth Hunter said: “Our initial thought was to have an alternative party for people who aren’t into the pomp and expense of a Royal Wedding.
“We expected around 80 people to come along for a laugh but tickets are disappearing quickly and ironically this will probably turn out to be the biggest party on Royal Wedding day in the region.”
Tickets cost £4 (£3) from the box office. Contact (0191) 4541234.
